Electric Castle

Who?

Electric Castle is an annual electronic music festival, born in the heart of Romania. Already at its sixth edition, in the same iconic location, the court of a Transylvanian castle, it offers a unique experience that shakes up the way people interact with music.

It combines a visually innovative concert experience involving alternative arts and interactive installations. The musical line-up remains electronic music centered, while involving rock, hip-hop, reggae and indie performances as well.

Electric Castle is in many ways a forward thinking and innovative event. It has a cashless policy, meaning festival goers can purchase food, beverages and merchandise with their RFID wristbands, while aiming to offer a zero-waste experience.

The event had a tremendous success right from the first edition. It was shortlisted 4 times as Best Medium Size Festival by the European Festivals Awards and in 2017 nominated by Xlive in Las Vegas, for Best Use of Technology at a Festival, next to Coachella.

Story & Goals

The collaboration between Electric Castle and BitStone started in 2015, at the festival’s 4th edition. When we took over the project, the website was redone from the ground up.

The task was a challenging one, in terms of accurately representing the festival vibe on a design level, while offering a perfectly functioning system in the background at all times.

Foremost there was one main goal: to offer a seamless online experience to festival goers in enabling them to easily find vital information about the lineup, accommodation and program details, ticket prices and ultimately drive ticket sales.

Important criteria were also to ensure a smooth ticket buying experience to the more than 2000 users per second who wanted to purchase passes - and a fully functional site during the festival days, when being accessed by an equally challenging number of users.

BitStone is managing the online shop for ticket and merchandise as well as the full server infrastructure required to run a heavy-load online store.
